Step 4 – Reuse Conditions
What do you mean by reuse conditions?
The NED service provides the option for you to apply a Creative Commons (CC) licence to the publication you are depositing. Creative Commons (CC) licences provide a simple standardised way for individual creators, companies and institutions to share their work with others on flexible terms without infringing copyright. The licences allow users to reuse, remix and share the content legally. Offering your work under a CC licence does not mean giving up your copyright. It means permitting users to make use of your material in various ways, but only on certain conditions.
There are six different license types:
CC-BY This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, so long as attribution is given to the creator. The license allows for commercial use. |

CC-BY-SA This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, so long as attribution is given to the creator. The license allows for commercial use. If you remix, adapt, or build upon the material, you must license the modified material under identical terms. |

CC-BY-ND This license enables reusers to copy and distribute the material in any medium or format in unadapted form only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator. |

CC-BY-NC This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format for noncommercial purposes only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator. |

Do I have to apply a Creative Commons (CC) licence to my publication?
Applying a CC licence is not mandatory for depositing a publication. Publications by government agencies and publicly funded research output from academic institutions may already have a CC licence which can be recorded during the deposit process.
